2001-07-09 :: 11:11 p.m. :: life

this is my life: bare bones. and a few random memories that come to mind that i don't want to forget.

like that time when i was in first grade (while i was living in scotland) and 'married' graham. it was recess, and we had made daisy-chain neclaces and tiaras and rings for both of us, and both had our best men/bridesmaids flanking us. another friend was the pastor. BUT... then the bell rang to go inside, and i was left. abandoned at the altar.

born in NJ in 1982 ::

ages 1-3 :: lived in NJ while my parents pastored a couple of churches there.
my first sentence: wanna go outside. a worthy first effort, don't you think?

ages 4-6 :: lived in St. Andrews, Scotland was there while my dad got his PhD in theology and my mom wrote a couple of books. i attended playschool, where as i recall, i enjoyed the sandbox and bubble wrap. and then first and second grade with Mrs. McCraw. i remember her for playing guitar like Phoebe from friends - i specifically remember kum ba yah. good times.

age 7 :: lived in boring upstate NY for awhile later lived at my grandparents house, and later in the Finger Lakes region. i was homeschooled while my parents were on furlough, raising money to go to australia.
strongest memory from this time: dressing up last minute as a farmer (think overalls, a straw hat, and a carrot in my pocket) for a halloween contest. i was mad because the prize money went to a 2 year old dressed up as a tomato... a whole five dollars.

ages 8-12 :: lived in Melbourne, Australia. my parents were missionaries, and taught at a Bible school.
at this stage i was rather interested in my walkie talkies, my BMX, and treeclimbing.

age 12/13ish :: lived in upstate NY while my parents were on fulough again. i did australian-based correspondence schooling so i'd be caught up when i got back.
Boyz II Men and Ace of Base were a couple of my favorites, and, sadly, Seventeen magazine was the ultimate of cool.

ages 14-15 :: lived in Melbourne again went to an all girls school, uniform and all.
had a string of boyfriends... first shaun (one year older than me, my two week 7th grade "boyfriend"... the only guy to ever break up with me, then teale (3 years older than me, a surfing type who i, at age 13, broke up with because we didn't have enough serious conversations), ben (2 years older, was planning to move across the country to see me more often... rather spooky in retrospect), and lastly, adrian (3-4 years older, the most intriguing of them all, as he never gave himself away). also the time period when my obsession with stars and the sky in general began

ages 16-17 :: lived with parents in upstate NY went through the typical high school routine of exploring limits, independence... a rebellion, if you will. dated two guys that influenced me heavily - jon and adam (both 8 months long - by then, you've either got it or you don't). jon introduced me to the world of all things legal and illegal that can be smoked, adam to the fact that i am a sexual being... although he never got what he really wanted. in the end, i got bored, so i decided to just go to college early. didn't bother to graduate high school.

age 17-20 :: attended college in upstate NY college was much more to my liking than high school. after extricating myself from adam, i dove right into college life... school newspaper, the cross cultural student society, the service committee, evangelicals for social action, a full courseload, and working 25 hours a week to pay the bills. plus a semester in london, a semester in tanzania, a month of backpacking around europe, a month in honduras, an internship with a Christian NGO that included trips to Honduras and Guatemala... and don't forget the very active social life. a busy, formative time, thoroughly enjoyed, recently completed. graduated with high honors with a BA in intecultural studies, a concentration in missions, and minors in french and sociology.

present time :: .headed for grad school am beginning an MBA program in International Economic Development, with a concentration in micro-enterprise development. should be fun...
