2001-07-09 :: 5:30 p.m. :: people okay, so not quite all of my people... but here are the stories behind the names that show up more than once in my journal. family my mother - she's the older version of me. or i'm the younger of her. loves beauty and simplicity. adores her cat, her view of the water and the mountains, and having her daughters nearby. my dad - what to say... he's done all of the typical things that fathers are supposed to do, but we're not terribly close. his depression and workaholicism prevents that. quirks: he walks at least 4 miles every day, and religiously goes to bed at 10:30 every night. my sister - angela (usually referred to as ange). almost 8 years older than me, recently moved to seattle after her previous husband was killed. currently lives in seattle, and is looking into grad school. works with mentally and physically handicapped people, advocating their legislative rights. loves: her kitties - hamlet and ophelia, and snapple iced tea. anthony - my sister's new husband. an australian guy my sister had previously been engaged to years ago, before marrying dave. got married 8 months after dave's death - a rather quick turnaround that was somewhat surprising to the family... and to them! enjoys: AFL, footy, and my sister. :) dave - my sister's late husband. they were married for 4 years, before he was killed in a car accident last summer. aunt norma and uncle steve. the lovely folks that take me to and from the airport in rochester when i'm flying west for summers or christmas vacation. she is a recently retired schoolteacher-turned-tour-guide, he works for some big company and jetsets all around the world, but mainly to milan. friends liz (aka Raker) has joined the ranks of those who i used to be rather close to, but have somewhat drifted from. she was in my london program and we became friends there. BJ another good friend who i'm not as close to as i used to be. we discussed marriage a few times... but never took any steps in that direction. regina - yet another good friend, used to be best friend kind of thing. somewhat of a rock star - she just finished recording her first CD. brian - a friend from seattle. he just graduated from the art institute of seattle, with a degree in audio recording. another scenario where things got weird when he mentioned marriage. meaghan - an MK from nigeria, she was my best friend in high school. we barely correspond, and see each other rarely, but always pick back up right where we left off. paulo - perhaps not the best relationship i ever let myself get into. he was eight years older, african, had lived... i was intrigued. but he was interested in a little more than i was willing to give. adam - high school sweetheart, if you will. star soccer goalie, good guitar player, good looking... but not right for me. jon - also dated him in high school. bad idea. he was my rebellious stage... one of the few i still spend some time with although we don't have much in common. i feel like his mother - watching out for him. adrian - perhaps the only guy i've ever dated who i considered to be my intellectual equal. one of very few people i still correspond with from australia, he has made several guest appearances in my dreams lately. jade. who was my best friend in jr. high (we even had secret code mail) and who i haven't seen for several years (see my links for her journal). she is also the web designer who got me started on my page. barryi've known him for almost six years, which is pretty good for how much i move. intellectual but fun, definitely unique... 'interesting' longish hair and bushy beard. gives great hugs. :)
